Bio:
Elda Almario (she/her) is a Registered Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, and Founder of Larô Therapy, a virtual psychotherapy practice offering culturally responsive and identity-affirming care to the Filipino diaspora in Canada. In her therapy work, Elda supports clients of all ages in exploring their identities, navigating life transitions and challenges, and fostering healing. As a clinical supervisor, she empowers therapists to decolonize their practices while maintaining their well-being and providing ethical care to clients.
Born and raised in Manila, Elda moved to Toronto in 2018, bringing with her a wealth of experience in Filipino mental health. Guided by malasakit (deep compassion), she is dedicated to creating spaces for the Filipino community to engage in open conversations about mental health and embrace larô (play) as a pathway to collective healing.
Beyond her practice, Elda is an adventurer at heart. She enjoys traveling, hiking, and camping, and has proudly completed a sprint triathlon and a full marathon. When she's not outdoors, you can find her playing Roblox with her niblings."
What does Filipino healing and wellness look like to you?
Filipino healing and wellness, to me, combine traditional practices, spiritual connections, and modern holistic approaches, reflecting values like kapwa (shared humanity) and pakikisama (community harmony). It involves using natural remedies, building community support, embracing spiritual rituals, enjoying nourishing cuisine, incorporating joyful movement, and reveling in uplifting music to foster balance and well-being in mind, body, and spirit. Additionally, integrating accessible therapy into these practices ensures that mental health support is readily available, breaking down barriers and nurturing a culture of openness and support within our communities.
